Donna Wares

After five years as founding editor of the Los Angeles Times Book Club, Donna returns to The Spokesman-Review and the new Comma Community Journalism Lab. She previously worked at the Spokesman-Review as Senior Editor and Community Engagement Director, creating the Northwest Passages Book Club and Forum and building the newsroom’s grant program.

Donna also served as L.A. Times National Weekend Editor and held various other editing roles at the paper. She was Managing Editor at the Orange County Register, where she edited narrative and investigative projects, and worked as the Register’s Business Editor, Legal Affairs Editor and projects reporter. She also has worked as a nonfiction book editor and is especially proud of editing "My California: Journeys by Great Writers," a bestselling anthology that raised money to support writing programs for children. Donna attended the University of Florida and began her newspaper career at the Miami Herald.
